Privacy notice

The study includes three sections in which data is collected. These are statistical data with which we want to capture perceptions of privacy practices. We use the data to examine if there are trends on the perception of privacy practices across all participants. This data is collected and stored anonymously, so that it is not possible to link data back to the person who provided it.

What data do we collect?

For the study, the information in the forms provided (interaction data) will be collected pseudonymously during the period of the study and stored by KIT internal servers and storage hardware. The storage of data for study purposes includes:

  • Pseudo-generated session ID to distinguish interaction data by participant
  • Participant ID provided by the participant's respective panelist platform provider to pay participants
  • Participant entries in the web-based forms
  • Timestamp associated with all interaction records to be able to attribute the session

Who has access to the data and for how long?

The raw data is stored directly on the server of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. Only the scientific study management is authorized to access the data. Furthermore, some raw data in non-anonymous form (participant ID) will not be published. All data relating to the provider of the panelist platform will only be kept for as long as is necessary to conduct the study. Anonymous data can be published and is therefore available indefinitely.

Which data will be published?

Only aggregated data and statistical characteristics (such as means, variances, and results of inferential statistical analysis) will be published, but not the answers of an individual participant, because in this study we are interested in trends. Furthermore, as addressed above, a previously anonymized dataset will be made available to the research community, which should allow other researchers to understand the procedure of the evaluation and thus the credibility of our results.

General note

Please do not enter any personal data, also not from other persons, into the free text fields. In accordance with Article 4 (1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), personal data describes any type of information that relates to an identified or identifiable natural person.
